Dear Neighbors,
I arrived in Juneau and my staff (Sharon and Lindsay) and intern (Jonathon) have been working hard to set up the office and reorient ourselves back to life at the Capitol. Session officially convened on January 17th. I am assigned to Senate State Affairs and to Labor & Commerce committees. I also will continue to regularly attend Finance, Resources, and Education committees.
This session I am introducing legislation to reestablish the Child and Adult Vaccine Program, authorize the Alyeska Snow Classic to obtain a charitable gaming permit, and enable the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development to employ an investigator to serve the Board of Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors. I am a co-prime sponsor on legislation to ban synthetic cocaine. I am sponsoring a resolution that designates May 2012 as Celiac Disease Awareness month. SB 123, Mining Day, has picked up several co-sponsors since I introduced it last year and I am hoping for passage this session.
I enjoyed meeting with constituents during the interim and look forward to all of the interesting groups and visits here in Juneau. I welcome your input on legislation and comments/concerns this session. We live in a great, and very diverse, part of Alaska. It is my pleasure to serve and represent the citizens of District P.
Senator Cathy Giessel
